At the Loch's edge
a new series of original paintings & a journal design!
I am so excited to be sharing these five paintings with you at long last! After months of materials experiments, technical explorations and a solid few weeks painting outside in the sunshine (glorious!!), these paintings came together slowly, slowly over months, then all at once outside in the summer sun.
‘At the Loch’s edge’ is a celebration of the hundreds of hours spent being by or in bodies of water over the years - taking those precious few minutes to notice the light, feel the wind, picnic on something sweet after a swim, or cycle round and watch the landscape whizzing past. The little, simple moments that make life rich. The paintings have been created in part from treasured memories, and in part on location, working directly from the landscape.
In this post I wanted to share some behind the scenes shots of these new paintings with you, their final layers being painted as the sun set, which coincidentally marked the end of our fair weather streak: just in time for these pieces to be completed.
Hand painted postcards
Accompanying each painting is a hand-painted post card, with the story and inspiration of each painting written by hand on the back. These wee postcards have been painted on location, to share a little extra special piece of the story and place with you.
Field Notes Notebook
Launching alongside these new original paintings is my latest notebook design ‘Field Notes’. If you’d like to learn more about the inspiration behind this notebook, you might enjoy reading this blog post!
It’s been such a joy working on these pieces; gathering colours, textures and experiences from nature to create these loch-scapes, which celebrate the importance and beauty of these quiet everyday moments outside.
