I'm still all over the place with colour. I see results I like in finished work but I am never very intentional when I start. I think it comes from the fact I never lay out a decent array of blobs of paint? I never really set up a palette. Too much scarcity mindset which I don't have when I use my cheap kids poster paint so I think that's where I need to go back to. To set up a sealed box with some premixed colours in poster paint that I can slap about with abandon. :-)
That sounds like a great plan! There's so much colour mixing we can learn with our cheaper materials, and then once those feel more comfortable it's easier to use other materials :) kids paints are just the best for that!
I love the colours you incorporate into your work. When I introduce a new colour to my palette, I start slow by doing limited palette paintings with it—using the new colour and two others. I want to see how versatile it is and what its limitations are.
What a fun post to read, first because of all the beautiful photos of colorful paint but also because of your insight:

Really beautiful colour options and choices. Painting outside always feels me with overwhelm but once done, is such a dopamine boost!
Thanks Louise! I know what you mean, it’s kind of like swimming in cold water, a wee bit of a shock to the system but feels so empowering afterwards!

Thanks Kate! That’s such a great approach, going slow really helps it sink in and see all those colour connections 🎨
